General FAQs
What are your hours?
We are open every day 10am to 9pm, except closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We recommend that you come to create at least an hour before closing time in order to have time for your project. If you do not finish, you may take your art with you and return one additional visit to finish at no charge.
We are closed on Easter Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
How much time should I plan to spend at the studio?
Most guests spend about 1.5 to 2 hours in our open studio, but you’re welcome to stay as long as you like. We do not charge by time, and there’s no rush to finish.
Many canvas designs take 2 hours or less, with some more detailed designs estimated up to 4 hours. Younger children often finish more quickly, while larger or more detailed projects may take longer. Some guests enjoy spending extra time with us, especially when working on detailed pieces.
If you’d like to take a break, you’re welcome to step out for lunch or have food delivered. There are many great walkable food options nearby, and we partner with local restaurants that will deliver directly to your table.
If you don’t finish your project in one visit, no problem at all. You may take it home and bring it back to continue another day. Your first return visit is free, and each additional return visit for the same item is $10. Most guests finish in one visit, some in two, and it’s rare to need more than that.
Where is the best place to park?
We recommend parking in the parking garage behind our building, as it’s covered and keeps your vehicle out of the sun. You can enter the studio directly through our back entrance from the garage.
Street parking is also available nearby. For quick pickup or drop-off, you may pull up to our back gate for a few minutes to come in or out.
Do I need a reservation, or can I walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome during open studio hours. Groups of four or fewer are welcome to drop in anytime for our walk-in art activities.
Reservations are recommended for groups of five or more, especially on weekends and during school holidays, when the studio can be very busy. Making a reservation helps guarantee that a table will be ready when you arrive.
If you choose to make a reservation, we hold your table with a $20 deposit, which is applied to your final total at checkout.
Can I bring adult beverages?
Yes. Adult beverages are welcome in our open studio and during adult parties in our private party room. Guests may bring beer, wine, or champagne, and we provide corkscrews and bottle openers for your convenience.
We also have an adjoining shop, Next Door Novelties, where beer, wine, sake, and mead are available for purchase.
Are all skill levels welcome?
Yes! All skill levels are welcome at Burst of Butterflies, and no experience is needed for any of our activities.
Whether you’re:

Party FAQs
Do you have a private party room, and how do I book a party?
Yes! Burst of Butterflies offers a private party room that is separate from the open studio and is perfect for birthdays, celebrations, and group events. Our party room accommodates up to 25 guests for activities such as pottery painting, canvas painting, clay projects, and other specialty options.
Most parties are scheduled for two hours, with options available for extended time if needed. The room is typically decorated for birthday parties, but we customize décor for many types of events, including mom’s groups, bachelorette parties, couples’ gatherings, and more.
Parties can be booked by submitting a party request form through our website. Once we receive your request, our team will confirm availability and follow up with next steps.
You are welcome to bring your own food or have food delivered or catered. The party room includes a large buffet counter for food, drinks, and desserts, as well as electrical outlets for warmers and a small refrigerator for items that need to be kept cold. Adult parties may BYOB beer, wine, champagne, or seltzers.
Our Chandler location also features a large outdoor patio that may be available for parties and events, depending on weather and scheduling.

Pottery Painting FAQs
Is the glaze paint food-safe and lead-free? Dishwasher safe? Microwave safe?
Yes. All of our glaze paints are non-toxic, lead-free, and food-safe once fired in the kiln.
To help preserve the finish and extend the life of your piece, we recommend hand-washing rather than using the dishwasher.
Most of our pottery pieces are made from earthenware, and we generally do not recommend microwave use for these items.
How does painting your own pottery work?
It’s easy and fun! Start by choosing the pottery piece you’d like to paint. Our team will show you how to use the glaze paints and help with ideas or techniques if you’d like guidance.
Once you’ve finished painting, you’ll leave your piece with us. We apply a clear glaze and fire it in our kiln to make it shiny, durable, and food-safe. When your piece is ready—typically about 7–10 days—we’ll contact you for pickup.
What if I don’t know how to paint?
No experience is necessary. It’s fun, it’s easy, and we can show you everything you need to know! Plus we have templates, stamps and other tools available for your use, as well as techniques.
Pottery painting is very forgiving and anyone can create something fun and functional.
How much does pottery painting cost?
Pottery painting prices vary based on the piece you choose. Most pottery pieces range in price, and the cost includes all glaze paints, studio time, clear glazing, and kiln firing.
There is no additional studio fee for pottery painting. You simply choose your piece, paint it, and we take care of the rest.
Our team is always happy to help you find a piece that fits your budget.
Do I need a reservation?
Typically you do not need a reservation — pottery painting is designed for walk-ins during open hours.
We do recommend a reservation on busy weekends and holidays, and highly recommend a reservation for groups of five or more on any day.
Is this good for kids?
Yes! Paint Your Own Pottery is great for kids, families, and all skill levels. We love seeing the young kiddos painting their pottery pieces with layered colors.
And all of our materials are non-toxic.
Can I bring a group?
Groups of 4 or fewer can usually walk in. Groups of five or more should reserve ahead.
If your planning a larger group of 10 or more, we recommend our private party room.
Clay & Wheel-Throwing FAQs
Do I need experience to try the pottery wheel?
No experience is required. Our wheel-throwing classes are designed for beginners and include step-by-step instruction from an instructor. We’ll walk you through the basics and help you along the way, so first-timers are absolutely welcome.
How do wheel-throwing and clay classes work?
Wheel-throwing and clay hand-building are offered as scheduled classes, not walk-in activities. Classes include instruction, use of tools and equipment, clay, and firing.
During class, you’ll create your piece, and depending on the class format, you may return at a later date to glaze it. All upcoming clay and wheel-throwing classes can be found on our event calendar.
How long does the clay firing process take?
Clay pieces take time to dry, fire, and glaze. In most cases, finished clay projects are ready for pickup within a few weeks, depending on the class and firing schedule. Our team will let you know when your piece is ready and guide you through each step of the process.
